Official IB documents

The Global Politics subject guide and teacher support material, published by the IB — where to get the current version, and copies kept here for quick reference.

Everything on this page is published by the International Baccalaureate Organization and belongs to them. It is gathered here so that a Global Politics teacher has one place to look instead of three.

Each document is offered twice: the IB's own copy first, and a copy kept on this site underneath it for quick reference.

Take your working copy from the IB

The IB reissues these. A downloaded copy looks identical to the current one and quietly stops being it — which is how a department ends up teaching to a superseded syllabus. Use the copies here when you want something in two clicks; check the IB when it matters.

The subject guide

Global politics guide — first assessment 2026 · published February 2024 · © International Baccalaureate Organization 2024.

This is the document the course is defined by: the syllabus outline, the assessment objectives, the markbands and the command terms. Everything on this site is mapped to it, and where this site and the guide disagree, the guide wins.

The IB publishes it openly, so it needs no login.

Teacher support material

The TSM is the practical companion to the guide: guidance on teaching the syllabus, and — the part most teachers are looking for — assessed student exemplars with examiner markschemes for the engagement activity and the HL extension.

The IB maintains it on the Programme Resource Centre, which needs the My IB credentials your school provides, and keeps it there as a set of pages and downloadable assets rather than one fixed file. The PRC is therefore the only place it is complete and current.

What else is on the Programme Resource Centre

  • Specimen papers for Papers 1, 2 and 3, with markschemes.
  • Subject reports after each session — the examiners' account of what candidates actually did, which is the fastest way to see where marks go.
  • Teaching and learning resources the IB adds between guide releases.

All of it sits under Global politics on the PRC, and none of it is public.

Both documents on this page are © International Baccalaureate Organization 2024, published by the International Baccalaureate Organization. They are reproduced here for the convenience of teachers, with attribution; the IB is their author and publisher, and the IB's copies are authoritative.

If you want to reproduce any of this material yourself — in a department handbook, a workshop pack, a website — the IB's imprint page names the route: licence requests go to [email protected].
