There is more in you than you think- Kurt Hahn

I consider that Global Politics is a unique opportunity to explore, experience and critically analyse concepts of power, privilege, class, and development. This amazing course is striving to shape leaders to bring change in the world.

This connects me to the vision of the UWC where global education movement makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

I am an IBDP Examiner of Paper-2 and IA of Glopo. Teaching this subject is my passion and I believe in experiential learning by making my classes with full of discussions and activities (Refer the class tour section page).

"Monica ma’am is one of the teachers who I adore till date. Her enthusiasm for the subject was what made me fall in love with global politics. She always prepared extra, which made us put in extra efforts. She’s definitely the one you go to learn about the international community. "

- Nandita, Batch 2019

The global politics course with Monika Agarwal was one of my favourite classes due to its engaging nature. The discussion-based style of learning environment enabled me to openly share my thoughts on many global political issues and let me debate upon the agendas of today’s world. This kind of course experience encouraged me to learn many topics beforehand and made the learning much more engaging, likable, and effective. With Monika, global politics was more than a class, and I’m very happy that I was a part of it!

Learning under Monica ma’am was a really fun and enriching experience! My concepts of global affairs are very strong and her teaching methods are the reason for it. The classroom felt like a forum to create opinions rather than a place where they were imposed.

- Tanvi, Batch 2018

IB Global politics is interesting on its own but Monika Maam's example-based approach makes it really fun. Her engaging teaching style will allow you to relate to things very easily as she breaks complex topics into smaller bite-sized lessons. On top of this, her extensive knowledge and active research work make all discussions deep and highly insightful.

Global politics class was a truly eye-opening experience that has taught me a lot about the systems that drive politics around the world and in my own country as well. From the power dynamics of IGO's such as the AU to learning about the different perspectives on development, the glopo class has truly exposed me to a lot of knowledge from all corners of the globe. The well-facilitated discussions in class were priceless, where there was a convergence of different views on a matter from each of our contexts being the keyword, as what was truly inspiring is students from all around the globe could discuss a matter with the different biases from our countries, our previous education or our traditions. Glopo also had a very exciting element that I enjoyed with the occasional presentations and group activities that were truly invaluable. A very mesmerizing experience indeed.

Global Politics was the most fun class because it enriched my UWC experience. It gave me the lenses to empathize with the student body better and understand the intersections of the different worldviews on campus. Monika as your guide on the global politics journey is an accommodating teacher who takes into account the learning styles and backgrounds of each of her students. She made Global Politics the best class to understand the UWC mission statement wholeheartedly. It was the highlight of my IB experience!

Seemole, South Africa

I first took global politics as a way to have a better understanding of the world, as in my previous school there were no opportunities to study politics or even discuss world events, whereas that's all we do at MUWCI. By taking glopo, I discovered my favorite subject and what I'd like to continue studying in uni. The subject itself can be tough sometimes and you have to put in the work but it's 100% worth it.  Monika ji is always there to help you. I really really recommend taking global politics at MUWCI, even if you feel like you don't know enough. I was really shy and unsure in the first couple of weeks because I felt like I knew very little compared to everyone else, but as the year went on, it helped me gain more confidence at speaking openly about my views and having engaging conversations.

Keep reading the points shared about how amazing class becomes, topics are and Monica ji is. They'll also give you insights on how amazing it is to discuss politics about a crisis when you've got a representative from the country in a discussion present in class.

Glopo is love and glopo is life because it'll equip you with the right words to have discussions regarding countries and politics, formally and/or informally too.

Moreover, GloPo knowledge will give y'all wings to take on unimaginable heights that will make you sound smarter, give you perspectives that'll make you think deeper, and mold you into a critical thinker.

GloPo has given me the opportunity and freedom to explore and understand sociopolitical issues that I am passionate about. I have learned how to examine and understand issues from many different perspectives, which helps me connect local challenges to a global context. GloPo has allowed me to question political issues that connect with me, and in turn, I have been able to connect them with other people's struggles all over the world. There is hardly ever a clear-cut "correct" way to view things in GloPo. I love that everyone's point of view is valid and that there are many different ways to go about solving the issues that affect us on small and large scales. Thanks, Monika Ji for giving such enriching experiences.

GloPo is one of the coolest subjects! It made me understand better the world around me, as well as it taught me a lot of my own reality, my own country. It teaches us to learn how to think about issues that are usually given to us as unchangeable, correct facts and helps us better create our own opinions. It taught me a lot about how to argue about the things I believe in, and the things I don’t agree with; it made me reflect on my own privilege, and understand how and why it is not the same for everyone.

Having glopo in a UWC is even better. Discussing an issue with representatives from all the countries involved in that same issue, listening to facts we hear about in the news being told by people who are indeed affected by them, and living those realities.

Glopo will change your life: not allow you anymore to read the news without analyzing what you’re being told; will make you have better critical thinking that you cannot use on a daily life basis. Isn’t it great? Thanks for all the activities, Monika. You gave us a space to open up.

GloPo, undoubtedly, is my favorite subject at MUWCI, and there are countless reasons for that!

For starters, you get to explore the world of politics alongside your classmates from all around the globe, which helps to get a better understanding of the issue: you not only read articles from the Internet but can actually ask for a crash-course on Taliban from your Afghani classmate or get an insider perspective on Jair Bolsonaro's style of ruling from your Brazilian friend!

The class is very discussion-based and will help you improve your public speaking skills, and also teach you to listen to perspectives different from your own and analyze everything critically. This class exposed me to opinions which I used to avoid and viewed as invalid before and made me reconsider how I see the world.

And how can I not mention that you will be under the guidance of an amazing teacher! Monika-Ji is incredibly caring, kind, and helpful (I had very few teachers who respond to my questions almost momentarily on a summer weekend morning 😂). I feel like I have improved my analysis a lot with the help of her feedback, and she very successfully manages to create an atmosphere of a safe zone in the classroom where you can say what you think and not be afraid to be judged.

Maks, Ukraine

GloPo is by far my favorite subject in school. Whether you pick current issues as your case studies or dip into interesting political theories, if you like discussions and global affairs, it's the class for you! In school, we've got a sunny conference room, an atmosphere of free discussion, and classmates from around the world to give their first-hand views on the issues in their own countries: whether it’s Middle Eastern conflicts or South American extrajudicial corruption.

In this letter, I want to let you know how much I appreciate your patience, commitment, dedication and above all the love that you show through what for me is your vocation, changing lives through words. You probably didn't realize it, but with the conversation we had last class, you made me reflect on many things. Not all teachers have the ability to disassociate the academic area from the student. Music is what I want to do in life, and I don't always get support when I tell people about it, that's why your words resonated with me and I hope they will still be present even when my experience at Muwci is over.

Global Politics has probably been one of my most empowering classes. It has helped me explore my political identity. I come from a background where political issues are often dealt with apathy due to a semi-authoritarian government, and global politics gave me the opportunity to learn and explore that space - I've done things I've never thought I could do before, like interviewing amazing people like the Representative of UNHCR to Bangladesh, and GloPo empowered me to do that.

Also, Monika Ji is basically a bro. You would be in the safest hands and who wouldn't love daily political discussions in a class?

Zaheer, Bangladesh

At first, I was reluctant to take global politics because It was a subject that I was not familiar with. I was not in an IB program prior to MUWCI so I thought I would have to catch up on a lot. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. I felt lost during the first two classes but the teaching method helped me to catch up and stay motivated. The classes were mainly discussions, watching videos, or reading articles on current events and analyzing them, also the units were gathered in a slide presentation, that is shared with the student so if there was something I couldn’t quite understand I could go back to it after class. So I would say as long as you follow the news, you are already done with half of it. The other half is based on your ability to write long essays.

Laetitia (yr 19-21) Medagaskar

Glopo as a subject is not based on theories and concepts, but mainly on the process of understanding them through different activities inside and outside the classroom e.g. drawing models on whiteboards, class debates, group discussions or poster-making. Studying for glopo is a constant process. For me, researching, thinking, and answering a tone of questions about different case studies e.g. China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Venezuela’s inflation crisis, or discrimination of Romani people in my own country - Czechia was an effective way of learning about global politics thanks to the multinational campus and especially the glopo class filled with a diversity of opinions.

I think the teaching strategy of going over P2 structure regularly and dedicating classes to this was very helpful, as it helped us to be able to voice our thoughts and doubts in an open forum. I was very happy with how we covered mainly what was on the IB syllabus (though it is fun to go off on tangents, this is more helpful for exams). I also really enjoyed the debates, as they helped me gain multiple perspectives.

Chikki (Batch20-22), Thailand.

''Term 1, I remember putting a lot of effort into GloPo, and honestly, it was not easy and many times it was hectic. I felt like the students in the class were better or knew more, but that did not last long. It was because of you who was saying that GloPo should not be taken as something which is causing stress but more of as watching the news and making basic analysis, and it happened. After many assignments, in Term 2 I was much more comfortable with the subject, yes there was work, but you made me change my mindset and not end up in the toxic culture of comparison. I have seen growth in myself. But GloPo would not have been GloPo without you Monika ji, while I often associate politics with no emotions and just people showing interest you were the exact opposite. You grew to be one of my favorite teachers (I only have 2 on this campus :)) because of the way you made me feel comfortable and included in class, you made me feel validated and listened to and I am very thankful. You teach politics, but you teach it with emotion, and you are one of the most understanding people in MUWCI - sometimes too understanding :)… I appreciate teachers, but I appreciate them more if I like them as people, and I see a great person in you to whom I relate sometimes''. I will miss you and the GloPo classes,Much love,

Ivana (Batch 2023) from Macedonia (politically correct: North Macedonia since 2018)

''From the beginning, I was excited to study Glopo as the dynamics and relations between different states globally, internationally, and nationally always sounded like an amazing topic for me. Furthermore, I remember a phrase you said that was "This is the best subject you can take being at a UWC because you will get an insight of the different cultures and ways of thinking of different countries represented by the citizens of those countries, and those are you". Indeed, I think taking Glopo in an international environment such as MUWCI made the experience really enriching. For me, you were a teacher that always pushed me to keep going and work harder, and I will be eternally grateful for that. I love your teaching style in the way that you did not force us to study Glopo but only if we were interested and that was reflected in the class through how students engaged with different concepts and case studies. Finally, I want to thank you for always supporting me and helping me with whatever I needed at the right time. I believe you are not just an amazing teacher but an amazing person as well. It was my pleasure to be your student ;)''.

Joaquín Chica (Batch 2023) from Argentina.

Thank you Monika for being an amazing person. You worked so hard to make everyone feel included and you spread such kind and good energy. In the beginning I was very scared of Global Politics but thank you so much for supporting and encouraging me if it wasn't you, i would have dropped out. Thank you for being a wholesome presence in MUWCI, I will never forget you. All the best wherever you go. You will do amazing. I am sure.

Ruthvery (batch 2023), Tanzania.

Dear Monika, I really appreciate Your ability to make complex global topics engaging and relatable is truly remarkable. You have a unique way of connecting historical events, cultural differences, and global issues to our everyday lives( news from home), which has not only made the subject fascinating but also relevant. Your enthusiasm for teaching is contagious, and it's clear that you genuinely care about each student's understanding and growth even though we are from different backgrounds.however your support and encouragement have been instrumental in my academic journey. You've always been approachable, patient, and willing to help, whether it's explaining a challenging concept or providing guidance on research projects( EA, EE) . Your constructive feedback has not only improved my understanding of global studies but also my overall approach to learning. Thank you.
